Komal Kaur, MSW, LSW

Author, mental health therapist and multidisciplinary artist

Komal Kaur is an author, essayist and multidisciplinary artist. As a licensed social worker and mental health therapist at Salam Therapy, she provides care in both Punjabi and English to clients navigating PTSD, anxiety, depression and trauma. Her clinical practice directly informs her community aid work as Mental Health Hub Director at Umeed-Hope, a mutual aid organisation she founded in response to the FedEx mass shooting in Indianapolis.

Since moving away from full-time education, the relationship between therapeutic healing and grassroots advocacy has fuelled her passion for writing books that explore diaspora identity, intergenerational care and cultural heritage. She is the author of the children’s book Walks to the Lake with Babaji and Bibiji.

Her current project, Panjeeri, is a deeply reflective examination of motherhood within the Punjabi community, explored through the interwoven perspectives of a first-born daughter, a first-generation immigrant from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and an aunt. The book considers generational caregiving, ancestral traditions and the nuanced realities of navigating identity, family obligations and healing across borders.
