Vahenoor Kaur

Sikh children’s author, poet and storyteller

Vahenoor Kaur is a Sikh children’s author, poet and storyteller based in Minnesota. Her faith is central to her identity and naturally shapes the stories she chooses to tell.

Her book, My Kes Is My Pride, grew from reflection upon her own childhood experiences. In its central character, Harjot Singh, Vahenoor recognised her younger self and the journey from uncertainty about kes towards understanding its spiritual and historical significance. Her learning about Sikhi, Kalgidhar Pita Ji and the Shaheeds helped transform the way she understood her own identity.

Through her writing, Vahenoor hopes to help children learn about Sikhi, understand their roots and take pride in who they are. She still treasures the original handwritten copy of My Kes Is My Pride as a reminder of where the story began.
